The IDW scientific information service is the news portal for up-to-date information from science and research. iToBoS is funded as part of the EU program "Horizon 2020" for research and innovation. The aim of the project is to develop a new diagnostic tool for the early detection of melanoma that uses all available patient information. This holistic assessment tool aims to understand the specific characteristics of each patient in order to enable personalized early detection of melanoma. The project has a duration of 48 months (April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2025) and a total budget of 12 million euros.

"iToBoS wird im Rahmen des EU-Programms „Horizont 2020“ für Forschung und Innovation finanziert. Ziel des Projekts ist es, ein neues Diagnoseinstrument für die Früherkennung von Melanomen zu entwickeln, das alle verfügbaren Informationen der Patientinnen und Patienten nutzt. Dieses ganzheitliche Bewertungsinstrument soll die spezifischen Merkmale jeder Patientin und jedes Patienten verstehen, um eine personalisierte Früherkennung von Melanomen zu ermöglichen. Das Projekt hat eine Laufzeit von 48 Monaten (1. April 2021 bis 31. März 2025) und ein Gesamtbudget von 12 Millionen Euro.

Hautkrebs ist die häufigste bösartige Tumorerkrankung des Menschen. In den letzten zehn Jahren haben die Fälle besonders zugenommen. Innerhalb der allgemeinen Kategorie der Hautkrebsarten stellt das Melanom die häufigste Todesursache dar. Jüngsten Statistiken zufolge ist das kutane Melanom derzeit die sechsthäufigste Krebsart in Europa, mit mehr als 144.000 neuen Fällen, die in 2018 diagnostiziert wurden."
