iToBoS liquid lens nominated for PRISM Award

Every year, the international society for optics and photonics (SPIE) recognizes innovative companies with the Prism Award.

It is so to speak the Oscar of the optics industry. We are proud to announce that Optotune’s liquid lens ELM-75, which was developed for the iToBoS project, has been nominated in the category for cameras and imaging.

The innovation that was recognized with this award concerns the improved optical performance of the lens. While liquid lenses have proven to be a reliable solution for fast focusing across various applications, the performance of large-aperture lenses was historically constrained when applied with a horizontal optical axis due to gravity effects.

The ELM-75 includes the newly developed liquid lens EL-16-40-GTC, which implements a groundbreaking passive gravity compensation solution, enabling the utilization of large-aperture liquid lenses in demanding optical applications (such as skin cancer detection!), regardless of lens orientation.
