iToBoS members attended the Mobile World Congress 2021. The GSMA welcomed the connectivity industry back to Barcelona for the first MWC in the city since 2019, both in-person and virtually, held from June 28 to July 1.
The 2021 edition was still special due to limitations and concerns stemming from the global COVID-19 pandemic. Safety and health were priority aspects, so the protection measures were strict and high (obligation to accredit a negative COVID test, presence of temperature control points, promotion of safety distances between people, digital accreditations and without contact, suppression of artifacts, etc.,) following the instructions of the health authorities and with the commitment of all attendees in health matters. Unfortunately, due to the effects of the pandemic, this edition had fewer exhibitors, presentations, news, presenters and attendees than previous years. However, people were happy to start taking back this iconic fair after a difficult 2020 year, where the event was cancelled.
iToBoS members were able to discuss and be updated with different specialist on the potential of cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence or machine learning, as well as discover emerging health technologies (from wearables and connected digital health concepts, to intelligent implants and robot surgeons) and the possibilities that communication technologies like 5G can provide for the implementation of new innovative solutions in the field of smart health, both from a technical and business point of view.
