iToBoS project was introduced in Cadena SER, a national broadcasting company. The University of Girona (UDG) coordinates an international project to create a tool for early detection of melanoma. The news is presented in Catalan.
The UdG is leading an international project to create a tool to help detect skin cancer earlier. It will integrate information from a body scanner with demographic, medical and genetic data of the patient to detect melanomas at a very early stage.
El projecte es diu Itobos, el lidera el grup de recerca de robòtica i visió per computador, el VICOROB, té 11 milions d'euros de finançament de la Unió Europea i inclou dinou socis d'Alemanya, Hongria, Grècia, Israel, Bèlgica, Suïssa, Irlanda, Regne Unit, França, Itàlia, Austràlia i Suècia. El catedràtic de visió per computador de la UdG, Rafel García, n'és el coordinador. Després d'experimentar en carn pròpia com de feixuga era la feina dels dermatòlegs per monitoritzar-li les pigues de la pell amb imatges d'1'5x1'5 centímetres va decidir aplicar la tecnologia del VICOROB per fer mapes submarins al cos humà.
